Wakatobi is an archipelagic regency established in 2003 which was previously part Buton Regency; it is located in South-East Sulawesi Province. The name of Wakatobi is an acronim standing for the names of four main islands: Wangi-wangi, Kaledupa, Tomia, and Binongko. The islands has natural beauty of both land and underwater despite its wealthy of fish varieties. Underwater paradise in the triangle of world coral is just right way to call the area as the facts say so; beautful nature of wonders are found in every single corner there.
Tomia is the third island which is beautiful equipped with small islands scattered around: Tolandona, Sawa, Lentea, and Nda’a. Natural white-sand beaches like Kolosoha and Huntete, or natural fresh-water well inside a cave “Tewali” are worth to be explored. The highest point of the land which is like watch tower to witness the united water, islands and horizon from above is the best place to enjoy sunset.
The underwater paradise is needless to question, long barrier reef meets the blue underwater valley is completed by thousands species of fish. It is the best spots for snorkelling and diving. If we’re lucky, we can witness the migration of dolphin and whale as plus point while having adventurous journey in Wakatobi.
Bau-bau is the capital of Buton Island which is the main access to enter Wakatobi islands. Tomia can be accessed by wooden boat from Bau-bau port. In fact, Bau-bau is not only a city to transit as it is worth to be explored for its wonderful landscape and nature in addition to its historic sites. Hutarimba waterfall, bay and beach are refreshing places. Palace site of Wolio Kingdom and old mosque “Quba” add the experience to recognize the glorious past of the Buton.
